The Bronze Medal and the honorable mention in the "Gold Medal of Chemistry 2021" competition were awarded to Dominika Krok, master degree student of Chemical Technology at the Faculty of Chemical Engineering and Technology, Cracow University of Technology. The winning thesis was carried out under the supervision of Joanna Ortyl, Ph.D., Professor of PK, within the framework of a grant from the Foundation for Polish Science.
By the decision of the Panel of Judges who are eminent scientists from various fields of chemistry, Dominika Krok, a student of Chemical Technology at the Faculty of Chemical Engineering and Technology of the Cracow University of Technology, won the bronze medal, but also a special award of DuPont Company.
The competition itself aims at selecting the authors of the best bachelor's or engineering thesis in chemistry and its borderland. It is organized by the Institute of Physical Chemistry of the Polish Academy of Sciences in Warsaw and DuPont Company, which is one of the largest chemical concerns in the world. The company awards diploma theses presenting the highest scientific value as well as is guided by the selection in terms of implementation of the research results in the industry within which it operates.
Engineering thesis for which the student was awarded concerned the development of new effective photoinitiating systems dedicated to obtaining polymeric materials produced by 3D printing using photopolymerization processes.
Scientific supervision was provided by Prof. Joanna Ortyl and Wiktoria Tomal, M.Sc.
